AZIENDA VITIVINICOLA BALBIANO (Piedmont)

The Balbiano Winery was founded in 1941, and for almost seventy years has been the benchmark of Freisa Chieri's production, an historical product, once known only in its sweet vinification and now in its popular dry semi-sparkling and dry still versions. The company's production also extends to a range of wines from the province of Turin, as the Collina Torinese Bonarda, Collina Torinese Cari and the Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco. The company philosophy has always focused on the motto "New technologies in service of tradition's respect" The emblematic demonstration of the very structure of the company is an 18th century farmhouse, now renovated, which houses the premises. The basement levels and the aging cellar, form the backdrop to a product, Freisa di Chieri Balbiano, of absolute excellence. Big plus is the wonderful Museum of Countrylife and Old Toys: a collection of objects used in farming.

In the 90’s the great qualitative revolution of Freisa di Chieri finally came to a very important point, thanks to the huge work done on the territory.
Freisa di Chieri and Balbiano welded into the collective consciousness as a combination that is still very strong.

With his experience as producer, and as President of the Consortium, Francesco Balbiano was identified by the Regional Directorate of Anthropological Heritage of Piedmont as the ideal consultant for an ambitious project that, in the early years of the new millennium, they undertook: the replanting of the Royal Vineyard at Villa della Regina in Turin. The great project of the Queen’s Vineyard was the testing ground for the new purchaser of the Company: Luca Balbiano.
Luca, the eldest son of Francesco, after graduating from high school and pursuing a graduate degree with honors in law from the University of Turin, followed the family tradition becoming the third generation of producers.

Since 2015 Luca Balbiano has been the President of the Freisa di Chieri and Collina Torinese DOC Consortium, the youngest since the Consortium existed.
He is also vice-president of Enoteca Regionale dei Vini della Provincia di Torino.
