BOGEGAS Y VINEDOS GANCEDO- (Bierzo) SPAIN

Gancedo Winery is a group of winemakers and winegrowers located in the El Bierzo region to the west of Leon province. They make wines in a traditional way combined with modern and innovative winemaking techniques. The winery has 20 hectares of vineyards that were planted almost 100 years ago. Most of the work in the vineyards is done manually because of the altitude. This delicacy also helps each vine reach its full potential.

Gancedo Winery owners want to make great wines in each vintage and promote sustainable and organic harvesting methods. This approach helps to protect the environment and the health of their vineyards.

The winery’s vineyards are based in the region’s best areas that have loamy soils and high altitude vines. The unique microclimate of the region, coupled with other factors, makes the region perfect for vines’ cultivation. Gervolesa, Lamas de Picon, San Miguel, Ucedo, and Los Almendros are their vineyard plots where the yield of grapes is low, but the fruits’ quality is high and perfect for making wines.

The main grape varietals planted for the winery are Mencía, Godello, and Doña Blanca. Gancedo Winery workers handpick the best grapes and transport them to the winery to make their world-class red, white, and rosé wines. El Bierzo has many mountains, rivers, and valleys that make the region immensely beautiful and worth visiting. The rich and diverse cuisines of the region and its wine make the region very popular.
