“Nica" means small in Sicilian dialect, an apt name for this biodynamic estate of barely 5 ha in the northeast of Sicily. One of the principal aims of this project is to revive The ancient Sicilian appellation of Mamertino, famous back in the Roman era, and which has made a comeback in recent years. This inzolia-grillo blends comes from a tiny plot facing the Eolian Islands to the north, vinified and aged in stainless steel on fine lees. The nose is intriguing off the top, gently smoky, featuring some yeasty-leesy character alongside yellow-fleshed orchard fruit. The palate is fleshy, broad, very succulent and palpably salty, adding refreshment to the ripe fruit flavours. Length, depth, and overall energy and balance are excellent.
